Perception the lesson that keeps giving….

PerceptionDo you ever have a life lesson that just keep appearing in your life? For me it is Perception. Every time I think ok,  I’ve got this, BAM! it re-appears….

So I have decided to take a deeper look into this idea. It is my hope that in sharing my experience with you that it may spark an idea or insight into your own perceptions.

Perception is an interesting thing. Two people can witness the same event, watch same movie, enjoy same presentation, listen to same talk, have the same conversation, be in same moment in time. And yet process the moment through their own unique filters. Creating 2 very different, very unique perceptions. Neither are right or wrong, good or bad, just different.

You and I can both attend the same talk and you may think wow, that was brilliant, and I may think that made no sense to me.  Many people attend a concert and some walk away completely jazzed. And yet others can walk away saying wow, that was loud it hurt my ears, and  I don’t ever want to see them in concert again. Two people can be involved in a conversation and one person may feel alone, abandoned, hurt, and confussed. While the other person thinks they are doing the best they can, all is well, and are completely unaware of any pain.

When you really look inside of perception you realize it’s a fleeting emotion. As it is neither real or reality, yet feels so real that it can cause us to react. When we can see perception for what it is. It begins to lose it’s grip on us. We can ask in the moment what is the lesson or blessing in this situation? How can this lesson best serve me? How can I be grateful in this moment? And be open for the answers to arise. When we can see perception as a veil that seperates us from one another and from the love that is always present.  We can then choose to allow our perceptions to fade away and let them go….

Take away tips: What perceptions are steering your emotions and feelings today?

~ Ask yourself what is the lesson and blessing in this situation?

~ How can this lesson best serve me?

~ How can I be grateful in this moment?

One Response to Perception the lesson that keeps giving….

  1. Amanda says:

Boy you are not kidding! I will never forget when my husband and I were going through counseling and I expressed that I was never heard and everything revolved around him…..he was suppose to repeat what I said to signify that he HEARD me. Instead he said “well I understand that from your perspective things seem diiferent and in your reality……..

Luckily the counselor stopped him. His perception of me was that I was from the moon and apparently my feeling didnt matter….only his. That was the first day I really thought and realized that everyones perception is different!
    Great post!
