Is there something in life you have been wanting to try or to do that may seem a bit of a challenge or a real stretch for you? A great way to see if you might like this change is to try it on, just like you would break in a new pair of jeans or boots.
You can do this by tying the new challenge for 30 days. A few of my recent 30 day adventures started with me wanting to watch less television, or really stop flipping channels trying to find something to watch. And so I removed tv from my daily consumption. I loved all of the free time that it provided me that we actually discontinued cable service.
Next I wanted to stop drinking caffeine and have to admit I had a headache for 4 days but after the 30 days I no longer crave caffeine in the ways that I did. I now enjoy a rare coffee beverage and really enjoy it rather than guzzling it down because my body needed it to wake up, and found a new way to enjoy it! I have just completed a 30 day experiement of practicing being a vegetarian. And I have to admit I was a bit concerned about this one, I thought ugh what if I feel exhausted or can’t function. When in reality, I am feeling fabulous, I am sleeping better, and even shed a few pounds. After these experiments I realized what I liked, what I didn’t like and kept the practices that worked best for me. It is a simple way to try on a new approach to living. The best part is 30 days is short enough to stay committed it is not saying I will never do this or that again, it is a short term trial. And it is long enough that should you choose to continue you can establish an easy change in any area of your life. It works on health, our thoughts, even something as simple as I commit to 30 days of being on time if you are time challenged.
My next experiment is 30 days of exercise. My goal is to find an exercise routine that I love and one that brings me joy! I know there is a method out there looking for me! So if you see me in a yoga studio or belly dancing please say hello, wish me luck and please share what works for you.
Are you with me? What 30 day experiment are you up for exploring?
With love and gratitude, Elizabeth
